In late 2022 we started planning for a Team Photoshoot at The Awakening. We had hosted a brand photoshoot in 2022 that set the tone for our rebrand, but we knew it was time to get photography of The Awakening Team. We're sharing some behind the scenes of our process:

Makeup, Hair, and Wardrobe

Before the makeup and hair trial run, we met to discuss our intentions for the shoot. Jordan, our Executive Assistant and Creative Director, knew that she wanted to keep the makeup simple, clean, and sparkly. Together we worked on a mood board to decide what hairstyles we wanted to try and, after perusing through Pinterest, we decided to replicate the funky hairdos of the early 2000's.

For wardrobe we knew we wanted to try a monochromatic look. Taking inspiration from our brand colors, we chose two monochromatic pantsuits - one that was orange and one that was blue.

Once the mood board was created and the wardrobe was selected, we went to work on testing makeup and hair techniques to ensure that we were prepared for Photoshoot Day.

Spreadsheets to Get Organized

In preparation for the shoot, we created spreadsheets to outline our 1) Day Of Checklist, 2) Shot List, and 3) Photoshoot Flow.

  1. Day Of Checklist: We created an overall checklist for the day of so that we wouldn't forget any important items. In this list we included things such as camera body, camera lens, SD cards, props, wardrobe, and makeup.
  2. Shot List: We created a list of specific shots that we wanted to capture. We used visual references for this (such as photos pulled from our mood board) as well as typed out our ideas into the spreadsheet.
  3. Photoshoot Flow: How could we leverage our time in the studio? What photos should we capture first? What photos could the photographer capture while we fixed our hair and makeup? We mapped out the Photoshoot Flow to keep us on task and organized during the shoot. That way we had a general guideline to follow and we could leverage our time. (Think of the Photoshoot Flow as your "Run of Show" - it will keep you on task for your brand shoot.)

Host the Photoshoot

A photoshoot can only run smoothly if you've adequately prepared beforehand. Leading up to a brand photoshoot, you want to be as prepared as possible so that you can feel relaxed and comfortable, and enjoy your photoshoot!
